During the pandemic lockdown I watched several gay movies that I hadn't seen in years. I was impressed by the style of a short film on anthology disk called Queer as F*ck which is getting harder to find:
JEFFREY'S HOLLYWOOD SCREEN TRICK, Directed by Todd Downing
Inspired by the recent spate of gay romantic comedies, this film brings dozens of anatomically-exceptional Billy® dolls to life through stop-motion animation for the most unusual date movie ever. Starring the voices of Mike Albo (author of Hornito:My Lie Life), comedienne Nora Burns and gay icon David Drake as "The Voice of Gay Men."
Berlin Film Festival; Opening Night: New York Underground Film Festival
Winner: Best Short, Philadelphia International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival (amazon.com).
I found all the violence portrayed less amusing than the camp qualities of the movie. I decided to portray a new world of dolls getting their gay on and formed the GI Joe Project that takes place in the dreamlike Ederhansel's World. If you have ever had a gay sex dream, I'd be surprised if you recounted it in your dream journal after waking that you wanted more and to return to that world when you fell back asleep. I am not talking about early wet dreams, but a longing feeling for life in an alternative reality as your gay identity develops.
Check it out and enjoy. Billy and Carlos frequent Ederhansel's World and get themselves into many interesting situations without the blood and gore and the need to literally drill a hole.
